I teach political philosophy, animal rights and environmental philosophy at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Here’s what some of my students have said about my teaching:
- “I’ve found myself thinking about topics days and weeks after we discuss them which is very unusual for me.”
- ”He makes me think, I don’t like it!”
- “Overall a very kind hearted and interesting lecturer whose classes I always look forward to!”
- “Makes complex ideas seem simple. He is also very welcoming, which makes asking for support far easier.”
- “for the first time after two years of my degree, I started to not only actually turn up to lectures but actually enjoy coming and it’s genuinely because of this module.”
I‘ve taught on over twenty courses across the University of Leicester, University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, and Keele University. I have designed and led courses on environmental politics, environmental ethics, animal ethics, political philosophy, introductory politics, human rights, and global ethics.
You can find my Animals and the Environment and Climate Change Ethics syllabi, as well as my guide to writing and research for political philosophy below.
Recently, I’ve begun creating a list of resources about the dangers of GenAI for teaching and research. You can find a Zotero library of those resources here: https://stevecooke.org/teaching/cautionary-ai-tales/
